Pest Control in the Dandenong Ranges

Spiders, ants and cockroaches

The everyday jobs: spiders under the eaves, ants in the kitchen, cockroaches, fleas and bed bugs. All of it is licensed work when it's done for pay.

The general authorisation

Spraying for spiders, ants, cockroaches and fleas is general pest work. A pest controller doing it for a living needs a licence with the general authorisation; the one including timber pests also covers termites, if you want both looked at.

Cockroaches

Better Health's advice is that a heavy infestation needs professional treatment by a licensed pest control operator. A few in a laundry or under a sink are a sign to look for water and food first.

Bed bugs

Bed bugs aren't believed to spread disease. Better Health says cleaning alone is unlikely to control an infestation, that repeat visits may be needed, and suggests a qualified pest control operator. They hide in luggage, clothing, bedding and furniture, so say whether anyone has travelled or brought home a bed or couch lately.

For a food business

The Food Standards Code requires a food business to take all practicable measures to keep pests out of its premises and vehicles, and to get rid of any that are there. It doesn't expressly require a pest control contract or pest records. That covers the tearooms and cafés of the hills towns.

Asking for a quote

Say which insect, which rooms, and for how long. Better Health suggests raising pregnancy, young children and allergies before the work starts, and asking for the full chemical name of the pesticide. Mention pets, fish or chooks too.

What's the job?

What you've seen and where: the roof, the walls, the kitchen or the garden, and for how long.

A photo of the pest, the droppings or the damage helps with the quote.
