Wasps and bees
No council in the Dandenong Ranges and foothills removes a wasp nest from private land. A bee swarm is different: that's a beekeeper's job, for a small fee or sometimes free.
We connect you with a local pest controller who works in the hills.

A nest on your land is yours
- Yarra Ranges
- Treats nests on council land when it can find them; on private land, use a professional.
- Knox
- Looks at nests on public land through Parks Services, 9298 8000.
- Cardinia
- Doesn't remove bees or wasps from private property; report nests on council land.
- Maroondah
- Doesn't help with pests on your property; helps on council land where there is a health or safety risk.

Leave it alone if you react to stings
Knox's advice is not to treat a wasp nest yourself if you are allergic to wasp or bee stings. Keep children and pets away from the entrance, note where the wasps go in and out, and let a licensed pest controller treat it.

Bees are a beekeeper's
Councils send people with a honeybee swarm to a local beekeeper, and Yarra Ranges says most will take one for a small fee or sometimes free. Maroondah says apiarists can often move a hive without destroying it.

Asking for a quote
Say where the insects go in and out, roughly how high, and whether you can tell wasps from bees. A photo from a safe distance helps.
