Pest control in Gembrook

Gembrook is the end of the Puffing Billy line. Steam trains have run all the way from Belgrave again since 1998.

We connect you with a local pest controller who works in the hills.

Two thirds park

Gembrook covers 202 km², and more than two thirds of it is park or reserve on the planning maps. Kurth Kiln, on Tomahawk Creek about 7 km north of the town, sits in Kurth Kiln Regional Park.

Snakes come with that much bush. They are protected, and it is illegal to capture, harm or kill one. A licensed snake controller moves them, paid by the householder, and 136 186 gives a list of controllers.

Old buildings on and off Main Street

Gembrook was settled in 1873. Silverwells in Ure Road is on the Victorian Heritage Register. Cardinia records on each property information certificate whether the property is termite prone. For an older house, a timber pest inspection to AS 4349.3 is the usual check, and termites explains what it can and can't see.

Most of the town's businesses are on Main Street. A food business there must take all practicable measures to keep pests out and to eradicate them, under the Food Standards Code.

Land that floods

A small part of Gembrook, about one fortieth, is mapped as land subject to inundation. Where water lies after rain, mosquitoes breed. The Department of Health's advice is to remove stagnant water and avoid bites. Spiders and insects covers the rest.

Orchard and dairy country

The land around Gembrook suited dairying and orchards, and about three tenths of it is still green wedge or rural conservation zone. Rabbits there are declared established pest animals, and the Catchment and Land Protection Act makes the landowner take reasonable steps against them. Deer are protected, managed on public land by the Game Management Authority, and Cardinia is a partner in the state's peri-urban deer plan.
