Pest control in Sassafras

Which council you're in
Sassafras is split between two councils. On the planning maps about seven-eighths of it is Yarra Ranges and the rest is Knox. Your rates notice settles which one you deal with, and the termite rules differ.
Yarra Ranges is designated from end to end as an area where buildings are likely to be attacked by termites. New building work there has to be protected. Knox asks the owner to sign a termite statement before it issues a building permit. Termites covers both.

A wasp nest on either side of the line
Yarra Ranges treats wasp nests on its own land only, so a nest in your garden is yours to have treated. In Knox, a nest on public land goes to Parks Services on 9298 8000, and the council warns anyone who reacts to stings not to tackle a nest themselves. Wasps and bees has the rest.
Knox also runs a trap program for common mynas. Yarra Ranges notes that mynas are not a declared pest animal in Victoria.

Devonshire teas and nurseries
The village has catered to visitors since the early 1900s, and today it has Devonshire tea shops, cafés and nurseries. A food business there has to take all practicable measures to keep pests out and to eradicate any that get in, under the Food Standards Code.
