Pest control in Ferny Creek

Ferny Creek is built around Dunns Hill, with the national park on two sides and Sherbrooke Forest on a third. The top of the Thousand Steps is here.

We connect you with a local pest controller who works in the hills.

Big blocks with bush on three sides

Ferny Creek has no shopping strip to speak of, just a general store, and its large residential blocks give it a rural feel. The national park runs along its northern and western sides, Sherbrooke Forest is to the east and the Upwey habitat corridor is to the south. On the planning maps it is roughly half green wedge and two-fifths park.

Snakes are protected, and it is illegal to capture, harm or kill one. Yarra Ranges won't remove them, even from its own land. A licensed snake controller will, at the owner's cost, and 136 186 gives a list. Possums, deer and rabbits each go to someone different. Who to call sorts them out.

Wet hills and standing water

Most of Ferny Creek is between 400 and 500 m up, and it gets 1100 to 1500 mm of rain a year, most of it from April to October. Against mosquitoes, the Department of Health's advice is to get rid of stagnant water around the house and to avoid being bitten.

Rebuilding and termites

The deliberately lit fires of 21 January 1997 destroyed 42 homes here. Anyone building in Ferny Creek now builds in a designated termite area, because the whole of Yarra Ranges is designated. A new house must be protected against termites; a detached shed or garage needn't be. AS 3660.1 is the standard for new buildings. Termites has more.
