Pest control in Belgrave

Belgrave sits between the national park and Belgrave Lake Park's wildlife corridor, in a shire designated for termites from end to end.

We connect you with a local pest controller who works in the hills.

A designated termite area

All of Yarra Ranges is designated under the Building Regulations as an area where buildings are likely to be attacked by termites, Belgrave included. New building work here has to be protected; a detached shed or garage doesn't. For an existing house, a timber pest inspection is the usual check, and termite treatment needs a pest controller whose licence includes timber pests.

Termites has the standards and what to look for.

Checked 25 October 2026 against Yarra Ranges Council: termites, Building Regulations 2018 (Vic), regs 150 and 151 (authorised version 031) and Department of Health: pest control licence applications.

Between the national park and the lake

Belgrave Lake Park, south of the town centre, links Dandenong Ranges National Park with Birdsland and Lysterfield Lake Park. Monbulk Creek, which runs through it, is important for platypus and water rats, and sugar gliders live in the trees. About a seventh of Belgrave's land is park or reserve on the planning maps.

Living that close to bush shapes pest control. Possums are protected and can only be released within 50 m of where they were caught, so keeping them out of the roof is the job. And the strongest rat baits, suspended nationally since March 2026, are the ones that poison owls hunting along the forest edge. Rats and mice explains.

Main Street's cafés

Belgrave's shops run along Main Street at the end of Burwood Highway and over the rail bridge on Bayview Road. A food business there has to take all practicable measures to keep pests out and to get rid of any that get in, under the Food Standards Code.

Wasps, bees and snakes

Yarra Ranges treats wasp nests on council land, not private land: a nest in your garden is yours to have treated. A honeybee swarm goes to a local beekeeper, often for little or nothing. Snakes are protected, and the council doesn't remove them even from public land; a licensed snake controller does, and 136 186 gives a list.

Over Belgrave's boundaries

All Yarra Ranges, so the same termite designation and the same council rules for wasps and snakes.

The nearest council line is Knox, past Upwey at Upper Ferntree Gully, where a building permit comes with a termite statement.
